When did you visit Onesimus in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia?
I went to Ethiopia June 2010.
Did you visit with a team or individually?
I went with a team from Central Church here in Collierville, Tenn.
What was the purpose of your trip?
We went to spend time with the children who come to the drop in center. Our main objective was to show the love of Christ through all the activities we did. We taught Bible stories, we also taught basic hygiene from brushing teeth to washing hands. We also played games and just hung out with the kids.
Was this your first trip to Ethiopia?
This was my first trip to Ethiopia. I had been to other countries in Africa, but never Ethiopia.
If yes, did it meet your expectations?
It was how I imagined it would be. I would love to return!
Did you have to raise support money for this trip? If so, how was that process?
I did have to raise support. I really felt God told me to go so I was not concerned about raising the money. I sent out a letter to my family and friend’s and God provided abundantly! I was fully funded!

What were your first impressions about Addis Ababa and Onesimus?
I love Africa. There is just something so special about it. When we got to the airport we were greeted by some of the Onesimus kids. They were so loving right away. It was as if we had known them forever. I felt right at home.
Describe an experience you had while at Onesimus that impacted you.
I’m a nurse so I put many bandaids on minor abrasions. One girl had blisters on her feet because her shoes were too small. I put new bandaids on her blisters each day. I got to give her a pair of my flip flops before we left. It broke my heart not to be able to give her more. These children have almost nothing!
What did God show/teach you during your time at Onesimus?
That I need to do more for His kingdom. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the American dream and forget about those half way across the world. This is a constant battle for me. I continue to pray God gives me a heart for others.
Is there one Onesimus staff or child that you really connected with?
One little boy named Caleb. He was so bright! I don’t really know his story. But he was just precious. He tried to help me learn some Amharic words. I had a hard time and he would laugh at me. It was great! All the children were special in their own way. I so enjoyed spending the week with them. As I mentioned earlier, I hope to return to Addis Ababa. I’m so thankful I got to be involved, although so minimally, in the Onesimus ministry. To see first hand what it’s all about.
What is one thing you want everyone to know about Onesimus?
This ministry is amazing! God is using the Onesimus staff and changing the lives of Ethiopian street kids forever! I love to think that one day I will be in heaven with some of these beautiful children!
